My husband and I try to keep up on current events and information, him more so than myself I have to admit. There are times I wish I could just bury my head in the sand and avoid all the craziness out there in the world. It’s funny how you’ll read an article one week that tells you something like: “eggs are bad for you, the cholesterol in them is killing people!” and a year later we’ll read one that says “new research indicates the cholesterol in eggs is actually good for your body and its recommended you eat at least one every day”! Ahhh!! Do you feel like your head is spinning?! I do.
Wouldn’t it make sense to embrace a “common sense” approach to life at this point? If it came from the earth and not from a factory…eat it. If it didn’t, take your chances. Same for all the products we use. We gamble every day with the choices we make, and there are no promises. Between the gluten free eating fad, all organic everything, drinking from BPA free water bottles, avoiding products with parabens and other carcinogens, I’ve come to a conclusion about us human beings:
WE ARE DESPERATELY TRYING TO SAVE OURSELVES. To be the savior of our own lives.
Now, I’m not saying we shouldn’t strive to do our best to take care of our bodies, to eat right, exercise and implement the things we’ve learned about good health. Of course we should! And I certainly try. But our society’s fascination with remaining youthful, looking younger than we are, and essentially searching for the perfect diet that will postpone our own mortality is pointing me to one thing: We’re all just scared, aren’t we? That’s what I take from it.
I won’t lie to you. On my side of the sink you’ll find deodorant made without aluminum, organic moisturizer with SPF and night cream made without parabens. I am a vegetarian. I drink lots of water, and ok…caramel macchiatos too! But, with that said, I understand that none of that means anything. I cannot save myself. That despite my research and good intentions, I may still get cancer one day and that yes…there will come a day that I will die. The information we have today, will be obsolete in years to come. Everything changes. Have you noticed that? Except one thing….
I want to share the PEACE that is possible in all of this. The pressure is off of myself to find the right diet, make all the right choices, to use the best products because I understand that my days are numbered by the One who made me. There is no recipe, no ten-step guide, no nutrition program, and no face cream in the world that will keep me from my ultimate destiny in the arms of my maker. And even though, to be honest, I still find death scary…I find comfort in knowing I don’t have to save myself because Jesus did that for me.
That is a truth that never changes. A headline you can count on.
Wow Laura that is a good blog. I’m constantly trying to do things that keep me somewhat healthier eating may not necessarily be one of them lol. But I do try to exercise and walk alot. I didn’t know that you were vegetarian. I have to eat meat it’s too good not to lol. Maybe that’s why u stay so skinny lol. You are right though we need to not be so scared because one day we are gonna pass on and we are going ro meet our maker and that should give us joy not fear. I want the confidence you have lol. You are a great person Laura 🙂

Danielle,
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I am no more “good” than any other person, but I appreciate the compliment😊 I’m glad you could relate and liked the post! P.S. I haven’t been a vegetarian my whole life, only the last approximately 3 years!
Thanks again,
Laura

HI Laura,
Enjoyed reading your post and your pov. Also, liked that you turned it into a tool for evangelism.
I did think whilst reading that perhaps people are just responding to the eternal nature that we were originally created with. Deep down in our souls we recognise that we are immortal spirit beings. Unfortunately, we are trapped in mortal bodies. When we die we’ll be released from the prison of our bodies but where we spend our eternity will depend upon whether or not we accepted Christ as our Saviour. Keep writing and witnessing.
Best wishes.
